2008 Logo Contest - Deadline extended!

In honor of its 10th anniversary, the Big Sur Arts Initiative (BSAI) is seeking design submissions for a logo to represent the organization. The contest is open to individuals of all ages and professions who live or work in the Big Sur area, including Palo Colorado Canyon. Children and young adults are strongly encouraged to participate.

The Rules:

  • Submissions must be accompanied with the application form.
  • Designs should be at least 6” x 6” and submitted on clean, white, unfolded 8 ½” x 11” paper.
  • Electronic graphic files can be submitted, but are not required. Electronic files should be submitted in either JPEG or PDF format at 300 DPI. Original electronic files will be requested of the winner if such files exist.
  • Designs should be able to be scanned and photocopied (no mixed media.)
  • Names or other writing should not be included on the submission.
  • BSAI reserves the right to anonymously display all submissions that are received in a public location after the competition is over.
  • In the event that no suitable submission is received, BSAI reserves the right to not select a winner.

The Fun Part:
The logo design the Big Sur Arts Initiative is seeking will include:

  • Graphic elements that relate to the arts and are professional, but reflect a creative, homespun, local flavor. Applicants should peruse this website and have a basic understanding of BSAI’s history and programs.
  • Graphics only – no text. The organization will add a coordinated typesetting of the words “Big Sur Arts Initiative” to the selected design.
  • Between one and four colors.
  • The ability to be recognizable at different sizes. For example, very small on business cards or very large on banners.
  • The ability to be reproduced in either color or black and white.
  • Graphics that are more simple and clean than busy and complex.
  • Designs that consider the fact that BSAI seeks to support all art forms – both performing and visual.

The Good Part:
The designer of the winning submission will receive a $500 grand prize and and their design will be used indefinitely as the logo in all materials for one of Big Sur’s most active and visible nonprofit organizations.

Selection Committee:
A selected group of local artists and community members will serve as jurors for the contest. Jurors and the immediate family members of jurors are not eligible to submit designs. Submissions will remain anonymous to the jurors and a selection will be made without regard to age, race, sex, sexual orientation, religion, affiliation, national origin or disability.

Contest Schedule:
Submission Deadline: February 8, 2008 (Entries must be received, not postmarked by this date.)
Decision Date: February 28, 2008
Unveiling of the new logo: March 21, 2008
